Surface Finishing is a process involved in millions of products throughout the world. It is used for a variety of reasons such as corrosion protection, appearance, wear resistance, lubricity, and physical enhancement of a substrate, which has traditionally been metal. Technological advances now allow other substrates to enhance such as Plastics. Surface Finishing is used across a number of markets from simple Commodities to Mission Critical Components.
Surface Finishing utilizes a variety of chemical substances contained in process tanks to electroplate or treat parts. Common chemicals used in Surface Finishing Processes are Nitric Acid, Chromic Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Ammonia, Sulfuric Acid, Hydroflouric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, and Phosphoric Acid.
These chemicals can evolve from the surface of the process tank as a gaseous vapor or mist and must be contained to avoid worker exposure and prevent corrosion to equipment and building structures. The chemical emissions must also be controlled to prevent them from escaping into the surrounding environment.  This is acheived utilizing a local exhaust ventilation sytem with a Chemical Scrubber or Mist Eliminator as an effective control device.
KCH Engineered Systems designs and manufactures complete Surface Finishing Systems and Corrosion Resistant Ventilation Systems to locally capture and control the emissions from Surface Finishing Processes. With 40 years of experience in the Surface Finishing Industry, we are longtime members of the National Association for Surface Finishing, and have completed specific training and examinations for the Certified Electroplater-Finisher (CEF) designation, along with other industry specific courses.
