KCH SERVICES INC. ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH TRION COATINGS
FOREST CITY, NORTH CAROLINA: April 15, 2019 – KCH Services Inc. (KCH) announced today that it has partnered with Trion Coatings, LLC (Trion), an innovative provider of chromium electroplating chemistry for the surface finishing industry. KCH will act as Trion’s exclusive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) provider for the deployment of its SAFE Chrome™, an environmentally friendly chrome plating technology. Specifically, KCH will hold design-build responsibilities of process lines and equipment using the SAFE Chrome™ technology.
Trion, which launched at the University of Notre Dame’s IDEA Center, was formed for the purpose of developing an environmentally friendly alternative to hexavalent chromium in functional and decorative chrome plating processes. Developing a safe alternative to hexavalent chromium presents advantages in the market as the global regulatory environment becomes more stringent.
The patent-pending SAFE Chrome™ process uses trivalent chromium and a proprietary ionic liquid solution that offers faster electroplating speeds, improved wear resistance and higher performance results than traditional hexavalent chrome, while offering an excellent health and safety profile.
CHEMICAL-FREE ODOR CONTROL WITH BIOTRICKLING FILTRATION
KCH Engineered Systems designs and manufactures a Biotrickling Filter System to remove high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas and other odors from municipal and industrial processes. The system effectively and efficiently removes 99 percent of H2S without the use of dangerous chemicals. Instead, a simple non-proprietary nutrient is used to promote biological growth on a synthetic media.
The standard KCH Biotrickling Filter System, also sometimes called a bioscrubbing system, is a vertical, countercurrent vessel designed for continuous operation. KCH Biotricklers can also be designed for a rectangular, low-profile configuration utilizing a structured high-density media.
These systems are constructed of POLYLAST® or POLYSTRONG® material, providing the structural integrity, UV protection and corrosion resistance required for outdoor installations.
EPA FINAL RULE ON CHROMIUM ELECTROPLATING AND ANODIZING
The EPA Upheld it's final rule on chromium electroplating and anodizing. The basic requirements of the rule are as follows:

CALIFORNIA PROVIDES LIMITED APPROVAL OF NON PFOS BASED FUME SUPPRESSANTS:
California limits the use of NON PFOS Based fume suppressants to only those approved by the State of California. Furthermore, certain OEM and DOD specifications will not allow process changes to NON PFOS based fume suppressants, requiring chromium electroplaters and anodizers to install control equipment like the Spectra U Chrome Mist eliminator.
